Lunchtime in the Cafeteria

Asa and a craft project from Mother's Morning Out

Asa's started attending a Mother's Morning Out at a local church a couple of weeks ago. He goes one morning a week for 4 hours and loves it. They play, do crafts and eat lunch. The first time I picked him up, he was very excited to see me and told me that he got to eat lunch too. I figured he thought it was cool because he got to eat lunch with some other kids without mom being around. Last week I told his teachers how excited he was about lunchtime and I found out why he thought it was so cool. They take all the kids to the church's cafeteria for lunch, so all the teachers and children get to eat together. Asa's teachers told me it's the favorite part of the morning for the kids and teachers. Do you remember lunchtime in the school cafeteria? Fun times!

Asa Likes to Move It!

So we recently saw Madagascar 2 which reminded us of when we saw the original... Asa was a wee one back then, but was more than qualified to identify with the theme song. So I (Tim) at the time put together a little video which is worth a quick look.

So we showed this video to Asa with the music and he said, "Where all the animals Mommy?" in reference to the theme song to the Madagasar movies. Too cute.

Video of the Ice Storm damage in our apartment complex

It's hard to believe that a week ago our town was enveloped with ice. It all started Tuesday with freezing rain and bitter cold temperatures. Our trees, power lines and roads were coated with a thick layer of ice. The ice was so heavy that we, along with most of northwest Arkansas, lost power. Our power went out with a bang, quite literally, as we watched our transformer explode with a shower of fireworks Tuesday evening. Wednesday morning we woke to a cold home and decided to spend our day out and about. Despite the amount of ice on the trees and buildings, the main roads were pretty clear. We made our first stop at the U of A, to let Asa have some TV and playtime. Then we headed to Chick Fil A for some lunch, along with what seemed like the majority of the U of A students. We braved our cold home for a couple of hours while Asa napped, then headed over to our local Boys and Girls Club so Asa could run off some energy. Tim grilled for supper and we ate by candlelight and flashlight that night. Asa enjoyed taking a bath and reading books by candlelight and flashlight. Our home was very cold, but we stayed warm with lots of blankets and a homemade hot water bottle. By Thursday morning the novelty had worn off, Asa was at the end of his rope and so we headed down to Benton to escape the cold. Funnily enough we found out later that our power came back on Thursday evening. :) The ice is now gone, it's warming up and thankfully the majority of people have their power back. Though the trees sustained lots of damage, we are thankful that we and our friends were kept safe throughout this ordeal.

This the main road that goes through our complex.
